News and Events:
HEROES OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS
The Central Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross annually recognizes our local heroes at its Heroes of the Central Plains event. Nominations of heroes in 9 different categories are obtained from the general public.
These heroes may be your neighbor, teacher, coach, or friend. They may have been your mentor, saved a life, changed your world. They come from all walks of life and do all kinds of things for all kinds of people, animals, or planet. Was it a fireman that helped you in a special way during or after a fire. Perhaps your teacher spent tons of one on one time with you to get you through an especially difficult challenge. Perhaps your church gathered around you and lifted you up during a crisis in your family. If someone touched your heart or life in some special way -- they are a hero! So let us know in order that we can recognize them for the special people they are!
Members of Community Unity select the recipient of the award in each category. All nominees will be recognized and the award recipients will receive their awards at the event to be held June 24th, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. Location to be announced.

MEET THE NEED
If you are having trouble viewing this message, you may view it as a webpage. |
Give a little of
yourself this summer. |

|
This summer we are asking you to encourage blood donors to help Meet the Need! Click here to download your Meet the Need toolkit and find the resources to help you plan your blood drives from May 26, 2008 through September 15, 2008.
The Red Cross summer campaign theme, Meet the Need, is based on research focused on the average number of blood donations an individual gives per year and the high demand for donations during the summer months. We look forward to working together to ensure blood donors are aware that the need is constant, and that blood is available for patients in need through the critical summer months.
Special promotions in addition to Meet the Need messaging include Music Saves Lives and the first ever racing themed Blood Donor Rewards program called Red Cross Racing. Contact your Donor Recruitment Representative to participate in these exciting promotions! |

The Central Plains Chapter received the following Thank You card:
Dear Friends and Fellow Patriots,
Thank you so much for sending me a care package. It’s
great knowing we are thought of and supported by our communities
back home. Girl Scout cookies are always a favorite. No
surprise—they went very fast. I am a member of the 734th
Transportation Battalion. We have 5 companies who provide
convoy security missions from here at Anaconda to bases
all over Iraq. I’m proud to serve with so many brave men
and women. I am also proud to serve our great country . Thanks
again for thinking of us and for your generosity. May
God richly bless you all and may God bless America.
MAJ Dan Kuhn
